Claret Civil Engineering Limited recognises that the process of risk management, the prevention and reduction of accidents and ill health and the provision of a safe working environment are an integral part of our business. The Directors of the company shall ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of all its employees, sub contractors, visitors and members of the public as required by the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

This Health and Safety Policy is provided to support and inform all employees of its contents and their roles and responsibilities and it is rigorously applied throughout the company. The policy is made available to all interested parties including members of the public. The responsibility for implementing this policy and communicating it to all employees, suppliers and other interested parties rests with the management and directors.

The objective of this policy is to eliminate accidents and harm to the health of our employees and suppliers by establishing, implementing and monitoring health and safety. The company will set targets to monitor its progress in achieving these goals. The objectives extend to visitors to locations and sites under its control and to the members of the public who may be affected by our activities.

The company complies with health and safety legislation applicable to the business and industry in which it operates. Liaison and full co-operation is extended to our clients, local authorities, trade associations, health and safety organisations and all other stake holders, who may have input into our work.

In order to achieve and exceed the health and safety standards and to maintain its commitment to continual improvement, the directors and management team are committed to this policy and ensure that all company personnel and others working on our behalf are fully acquainted with and consulted on the company targets. Suitable and sufficient resource, supervision, education and ongoing training are provided for all employees.

It is the responsibility of the company’s management at all levels to be conversant with the contents of the policy, and to plan work such, that foreseeable risks are identified and reduced to an acceptable level through the implementation of risk assessment and risk control.

All employees and suppliers must take care of the health and safety of themselves and actively participate and co-operate with the company to enable the company to discharge its statutory responsibilities and fulfil its objective for continual improvement in all health and safety matters. It is also the company’s objective to offer support, guidance and information to our sub contractors and supply chain to help them achieve the standards the company sets itself.

This policy will be issued to all employees and other interested parties and will be reviewed annually to ensure compliance with legislation and relative to the company’s activities.

Claret Civil Engineering Ltd, in carrying out our operations, is committed to leading the industry in minimising the impact of our activities upon the environment. The company recognises that effective management and the allocation of the correct resources for our environment makes excellent business sense and will be fundamental and an integral part of our business strategy.

To ensure that we achieve these standards, procedures will be implemented to include the following:

Ø Awareness of how our activities impact upon the environment and minimisation of the adverse effects by employing suitable techniques, not entailing excessive cost, through a policy of improvement within the workplace, control of pollution and care for the local environment

Ø Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to the company and possible influence on future legislation

Ø Conserving the use of resources, particularly those which are scarce or non renewable, including the following:

a) To avoid waste and encourage conservation, reduce, re-use and recycling, e.g. chipping, composting and waste disposal management etc
b) To preserve, restore and enhance the built and natural heritage
c) To encourage the sustainable use of land based resources and certified timber and wood products
d) To reduce air, land and water pollution

Ø Sensitivity to the environmental concerns of our neighbours and the communities through which we operate and responding to them

Ø Adopting environmental objectives to continually improve our environmental performance and monitor progress in their achievement

Ø Actively promote an environmental initiative both internally and amongst our customers and suppliers

Ø Communicating this policy to our staff, suppliers, customers, members of the public and seeking their support in its implementation

This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis or as required by changes of legislation, new work practices or procedures.

New Contract Awards Claret Civil Engineering is pleased to announce the recent awards of two important long-term contracts with blue-chip water utility clients.
Following prolonged and intensive tender assessment periods, the company has been re-selected as a delivery partner by two of our most valued clients, Anglian Water Services and Veolia Water East.

Anglian Water Services has awarded the company a 3-year Framework Agreement, commencing 1st March 2011, as a Civil Engineering Partner supporting the client's AMP5 wastewater operational capital delivery strategy.

Veolia Water East has awarded the company a 3-year Period Works Contract, to carry out new build, rehabilitation and maintenance activities throughout their potable water network.

Both of these awards build on the working relationships created during previous contract periods and we are understandably pleased for these endorsements of our service capabilities and achieved levels of performance

Claret awarded OHSAS 18001 On the 12th August 2009 the company gained accreditation in ISO 18001.
Occupational Health Safety Assurance System (OHSAS) 18001 is a UK standard enabling businesses to measure and demonstrate their commitment to Occupational Health and Safety.
John Goldring presented this certificate to Director Andy Gibbons and Health, Safety and Environment Manager Mark Cooper.
